Hi Parents! Hope you were able to make it to our Parent Activity! It was very informational on how you can help your child use the partial product and expanded notation strategy for multiplication. The purpose also was to help ease the understanding of common core and why your child has to learn to solve multiplication problems in many ways. Thank you for the positive feedback! We also loved seeing all of you and the student/parent interaction that was occurring during the activity. Mahalo for also taking the time to join us! It was a great event!
Yay! Conferences are done and our kiddos did such a great job leading it! They showed accountability of their work and grades, they were able to work on their speaking skills, and share with all of you what great progress they have been making so far this year! Mahalo for all of you taking time out of your busy schedules to listen to your child share their progress. Your support is greatly appreciated. Together we can help your child succeed.
Happy Friday E-204 Ohana! This week was a fun filled week full of bike safety! Our students learned about the 6 point check, 6 things they need to check on their bike before riding in order to ride safely. They also learned about what colors were safe to wear or not safe to wear while riding a bike. Riding a bike in the neighborhood was so much fun and a great real life experience that they can connect to. They all received a certificate saying that they passed bike ed! Another great memory to add to OUR 4th grade journey1
Aloha E-204! We are back for another quarter and in full swing! We reviewed expectations with our students had a great week back! We know you started noticing a lot more homework. The times tables and factors is basically practice for multiplication fluency that'll help them greatly with 4th grade concepts. The incentive is, if they can pass the timed test every Friday, that tells me they are fluent in their multiplication facts and they don't have to do TT and FT for the next week. However, if they don't pass, they will need to continue doing times tables and factors the next week. Also, I time them 5 minutes for TT and 5 mins for FT. It should only take 10 minutes to do. Then when the time is up, they can complete it. I provided a purple reference sheet with their times tables from 2-12 and factors 1-25. If I see a trend that they are able to pass their factors 1-25 consistently, I will move them up 26-50, 51-75, and eventually 76-100. According to 4th grade math common core standards 4.OA.B.4, your child should be able to find all factor pairs for a whole number in the range 1-100 by the end of their 4th grade year.
Quarter 1 is finally over! It has flew by so quickly! Hopefully now our students are familiar with our expectations and class routines that we can move on to more content, science experiments, and much more fun learning experiences to come! Conference reminders will be coming home soon as well as an invitation to our annual 4th grade parent activity. Please save the date November 9th Friday if you can attend! Our students will be going over multiplication strategies that you can use to help your child with at home. These skills are crucial because multiplication plays a big role in MOST 4th grade math content areas. Keep a look out for the invitation.
Until then, enjoy your fall break with your ohana!
We are getting to the last push of Quarter 1! Wow! We cannot believe we have 1 more week to go and we're off to start quarter 2! Something to look forward to in this last week is Mid-Quarter Assessments. What this is basically are your child's assessments they have taken so far in the 1st quarter. You will have an opportunity to review these assessments with your child and see how they are doing in the 1st quarter. Then you would sign the sheet and return assessments back to school. One thing to keep in mind is that it is only the beginning of the year. We are practicing skills that will eventually improve throughout the year. Please don't be alarmed if you see your child not doing well. And of course if we see RED FLAGS, we will definitely share our concerns with you. We can discuss in more detail at conferences:) But here are some reasons why students tend to start off developing in the 1st quarter...
Always feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you!
Spirit week was fun being able to dress up with wacky hair and showing our individualism! What a great way to also share school spirit & personal pride! Very awesome!
We also got to go on our very first field trip to the lo'i and it was the best field trip yet! Pictures of the lo'i will be on class info tab under e-204 photos-->Hawaiian studies. Our students had so much fun and we appreciate all the chaperones who came on the field trip to help make that awesome day a wonderful experience with the kiddos. Mahalo! Have a relaxing weekend!
Phew! Thank goodness we're all safe from this tropical storm Olivia! This has been such as busy hurricane season so far. We always need to be safe and vigilant during these times.
This week Jesse made our 1st iReady weekly superstar who met the required lessons and lesson % rate for the week! Encouraging iReady with your child is very crucial to work on making progress in grade level skills and to prep for 5th grade skills. Awesome work Jesse!

Eō ke Kula o Ho‘okele!
Hi E-204 Ohana!
Well this week was a fast one with Monday's holiday. Congrats to Grade 1 who won the coin wars! Grade 4 was very close! Being that we are the smallest grade level, we still did pretty good! Mahalo for all of your donations that will be going towards a very good cause!
This past Tuesday, our students had resource classes again and met their Hawaiiana teacher Kumu Nettie and their music teacher Ms. Craft. Miss Carey and I got word from both teachers saying our students did well in their classes. They were on roll this week because the students earned green cup for the most of the week if not all and did well in their resources.
On Thursday and Friday, our students had substitutes because Miss Carey and I had a training. We also had awesome news from them that they did well. We are so proud of them since this is the first time we've had subs in the class. Keep up the great behavior kiddos! That is 20+ marbles in the last two days! Their classdojo points and marbles racked up this week! Wonderful!
Our field trip is coming up next week Thursday! Don't forget to get you forms and payments in.
Until next week! Aloha!
