Our annual career day was this past Wednesday! Visitors came to our school to share about their profession giving our students an opportunity to explore various careers from registered nurses, chemists, TV sports anchors, law enforcement, and much more! Our students took notes in a booklet about how they would meet requirements to get into the specific profession, daily duties, etc. It was a very informative event! Can't wait for next year:)
Wow! What a showcase that was! It was so awesome to see our students work up for all to appreciate the hard work they put into their projects! I also enjoyed all the wonderful artwork displayed by the rest of the student body. It is so wonderful to see how hard our students work and the creativity Ho'okele displays every year. It gets better and better too! We hope that you all had a chance to check it out! Here are some pics of our students helping their buddy class with filling out Happy Grams. Happy grams are positive notes that our students and families write about their art work/ projects.
Lest week our kiddos did a gravity experiment with Miss Carey on which paper would hit the ground first if we released it at the same rate and height? Would it be a crumpled paper or a flat piece of paper? Our students have found that a crumpled paper hit the ground faster because the flat paper is flexible and was slowed down by air resistance which we will get more into in class. Pics will be in the gallery under class information!
Aloha Ohana! Practice is finally over and our students are now familiar with what the test will look like, they got to experience the physical environment and nature of testing, and know some test taking strategies to help them conquer the HSA Science Test in April and SBA in May. We were able to see how our students are doing and analyze what instruction they will need to help them get to where we want them to be by the end of the year to prep for SBA. Thank you so much for your cooperation during that time.
Our students were ecstatic that we have started new units this week! We did science: GRAVITY and for writing, EXPOSITORY/INFORMATIVE with MIss Carey! We also started Second Step which is a bullying prevention unit that counts for health & decision making. We're excited to see what these kiddos can produce! Stay Tuned!
*Pics will be going up soon!
This week has been a long one for our kiddos as they are prepping for the Smarter Balance Assessment coming up in May. They tested on ELA- Reading and got a feel of how the test is, how to use the tools, and basically what to expect. They were able to see how the testing environment is since we are flexible seating, we test in a traditional seating classroom across the hall. They are building persistence and perseverance as they are going through this prep period and are doing a great job! Next week Tuesday through Friday we will be prepping for the SBA Math assessment. Please at all possible have your child in school and come on time, have them eat a healthy breakfast, and get a good night's rest daily. Mahalo for your support and cooperation!
Aloha Families! It has been such a rejuvenating break! Although we would all appreciate another week off, LOL, we have to get back to work opening quarter 3. This week, we will be practicing for the SBA interim that will be administered next week. May we have an awesome start of the year and Quarter 3! We are halfway there until you become 5th graders! Let's do this kiddos!
Hi parents! This week we started working on division in stepping stones. There are two strategies they have learned: Base ten Models and Using "Ten is your Friend" Below are examples of each strategy so that you may help them at home. Next week we will be working on partial quotients! I will be posting another example on that soon!
This week was a great week full of safety drills and practices! We are so thankful to have a school that's secure however it is always important to stay on top of our safety drills and evacuations so that our students are always safe and they know what to do in various situations. They did a great job with drills! Here are some photos from the earthquake drill! Remember our Tribe Agreement: Safety First! Always be diligent!
